From
Pátra
you can
reach
Kórinthos
in two
hours by
train
or
bus
along
the
national
highway;
the
onward
journey
to
Athens
takes
another
ninety
minutes.
The
resorts
and
villages
lining
the Gulf
of
Kórinthos
are
nothing
very
special,
though
none of
them is
overdeveloped.
At most
of them
you find
little
more
than a
narrow
strip of
beach, a
campsite,
a few
rooms
for rent
and a
couple
of
seasonal
tavernas.
At both
Río
and
Éyio
, you
can
cross
the gulf
to the
mainland
by
ferry.
Beyond
Dhiakoftó
, if
you're
unhurried,
it's
worth
taking
the old
coast
road
along
the Gulf
of
Kórinthos;
this
runs
below
the
national
highway,
often
right by
the sea.
However,
to
travel
from
Pátra to
Kórinthos
without
taking
the time
to
detour
along
the
Kalávryta
railway
from
Dhiakoftó
would be
to miss
one of
the best
treats
the
Peloponnese
has to
offer -
and
certainly
the
finest
train
journey
in
Greece.
Even if
you have
a car,
this
trip
should
still be
part of
your
plans.
