Moving
west
from
Karytena
towards
Andhrítsena,
the
Alfiós
River
falls
away to
the
north
and the
hills
become
mountains
- sacred
Lykeo to
the
south
and
Mínthi
to the
west.
The
route,
only
slightly
less
remote
than the
twists
of road
around
Dhimitsána,
is a
superb
one for
its own
sake,
with the
added
attractions
of
Andhrítsena
, a
traditional
mountain
town,
and the
Temple
of
Apollo
Epikourios
at
Bassae
up in
the
flanks
of Mount
Lykeo.
