The main
gateway
to the
intriguing
northwest
corner
of
Macedonia,
a land
of lofty
peaks
and
mirror-like
lakes,
Édhessa
,
teetering
atop the
same
escarpment
as Véria,
has been
resolutely
turning
itself
into a
regional
centre
for
tourism
since
the late
1990s.
With
considerable
style it
has
recently
started
renovating
its old
buildings,
including
some
handsome
water
mills,
and now
offers a
wide
range of
activities
both
within
the town
and in
the
nearby
mountains.
The town
makes a
good
base
from
which to
visit
the
unspoilt
archeological
site of
Lefkádhia
and the
viticultural
centre
of
Náoussa
.
