The road
heading
southeast
from
Zákynthos
passes
through
ARGÁSSI
, the
busiest
resort
on this
coast,
but with
a beach
barely a
few feet
wide in
parts.
Although
independent
travellers
would be
better
off
basing
themselves
at one
of the
places
further
down, it
could be
used as
a
jumping-off
point
for the
Vassilikós
peninsula;
there
are
rooms at
the
Pension
Vaso
(tel
06950/44
599;
¬34-42)
and
Soula
(tel
06950/44
864;
¬34-42)
just off
the main
road
entering
the
village,
and the
seafront
boasts
some
smart
hotels,
among
them the
Locanda
(tel
06950/45
386, fax
23 769;
¬43-58)
and the
joint
Chryssi
Akti/Paradise
Beach
(tel
06950/28
679, fax
28 699;
¬59-72).
Beyond a
few
indigenous
tavernas
- try
Three
Brothers
or
The Big
Plate
restaurant
-
culture
is
mainly
low-brow
with set-piece
"Greek
nights",
one
notable
exception
being
the
Venetsiana
, which
accompanies
traditional
food
with
nightly
kantádhes
.
Argássi
is also
home to
some of
the
island's
biggest
and most
popular
discos
on the
town
side,
such as
Vivlos
and
Barrage
, and a
host of
cheap
and
cheerful
bars in
the
village.
